A Horse doesn't Need much. But What It Needs must be right.

It is becoming increasingly common for horse owners to face chronic health issues with their equine companions rather than enjoying carefree rides and good times. Dealing with and suffering from various lifestyle diseases or other health problems in horses can quickly reach a point where time spent together becomes more of a burden than a benefit. These range from poor performance and vague symptoms in the musculoskeletal system to serious illnesses such as sweet itch or laminitis. If you take a closer look at these problems, you will inevitably review the feeding, which unfortunately is still not appropriate for the equine species in many stables. Various supplementary feeds are then used to conceal the symptoms that have arisen from an unnatural basic feed that is not tailored to the horse and its needs. As a result, problems are passed from one organ system to another. Symptoms are supposedly fixed only to show up somewhere else, without the horse becoming sustainably healthy.

The Wrong Feed – Expensive Consequences. Often only Recognisable after Years. But Painful long before.

Unfortunately, the consequences of incorrect feeding are not usually visible immediately, but often only after a delay of months or years. The horse's metabolism initially tries to replace the processes that no longer functions optimally with others. However, this overloads them, and the metabolism has to find a new route to keep the organism alive. We only see the external symptoms when the metabolism has exhausted all its possibilities of reacting to errors in the system with alternative pathways. The time span until the first signs appear and which symptoms ultimately become visible varies from horse to horse. One horse may appear to be coping well with its feed, while another has been suffering from a loss of appetite for some time, often a first warning sign of stomach ulcers, and a third horse may show free faecal water syndrome or already be reacting with colic.

The Scientific Lead at OKAPI: Dr Christina Fritz

Dr. rer. nat. Christina Fritz is the Scientific Director of OKAPI Research. She is responsible for the formulation and composition of the individual products and their further development in line with the latest global scientific findings and studies.

Dr Fritz holds a PhD in Biology, specialising in Animal Physiology and Animal Neurobiology, and is therefore well versed in the anatomical structures and biochemical and physiological interactions of the specific equine metabolism.

In addition to numerous reference books, she also publishes scientific articles and is one of the world's leading and most sought-after experts, lecturing at conferences and to veterinarians and students. She is a lecturer in further education in the field of horse nutrition and health and is one of the most renowned specialists in the field of equine-appropriate nutrition and metabolic therapy.
